I finally have the slits working. They collide correctly and are able to be skinned properly. I am satisfied with the way the splits are set up through randomized point groups and coppied geometry but I would still like to find a more productive way wit the foreach loop to skin the curves.

I have gone through the curve editor and tweaked the animation of the man a bit. His movements flow more with out harsh steps and pauses.

Going back to the veins as shown above I added a little more detail. Here there is added randomization to the thickness of the veins which seem to add to their fluent shapes.
